The person on the other side of the ledger

Hi, I'm Joey. I trade my own money, and I show my work.

1,491

Fills published — every trade I have made, across two brokerage accounts since June 12, 2023. Winners and losers both. You should not take a word of teaching from someone whose record you cannot check, so mine is open on its own page before you pay me anything.

I am not a financial advisor and I sell no signals, plays or alerts — ever, at any price. What I sell is how the machinery works and how I reason about it. The decision stays yours; that is the product, and the whole legal section is at the bottom of this page in the same type as everything else.

Come sit in the room

The official Discord server, run by Joey. It is where the questions get asked out loud, and the fastest way to find out whether I am worth learning from.

Join the server
  • Talk about the tape. Ask about anything on the record — a fill, a round trip, or the method that produced it. It is all public, so the questions can be specific.
  • Watch it get built. The ledger, this site and Tapehand are made in the open. The room is where that happens out loud.
  • Education only — the same line as everywhere else. No signals, no alerts, no plays, no calls on your account. That line does not move because the room is smaller.
  • The log posts there too. A #fills channel carries the same fills this site does, as they are published. It is a record of trades already made, never a call to make one.
  • Free, and it stays free. No paid tiers, nothing to buy at the door.

The button hands you to Discord, where Discord's own terms and privacy policy apply.

How I can actually help you

Two things cost money and both of them are education — knowledge and ideas, never results and never actual plays. The record and the room are free and stay free; they are not a trial of anything.

Tapehand

The engine behind this site: a local market-data store your assistant can read, with IV and greeks computed locally so every number is one you can re-derive. It never pulls the trigger — it builds an order, prices it, sizes it, checks it against your guards, then stops.

no price yet

Everyone signs the same six terms before the first paid hour or the first charged month, subscriber or student, and they have always been public. The terms don't change for anyone, and the price is in the list. No waiting list ever gets sold or shared.

What I'm trading

The live book as shape rather than money: what I own, what share of the account it is, and how long I have held it. I size for the drawdown I can sit through rather than the upside I can imagine.

I'll teach you how I think. Not what to buy.

My name is Joseph Malicke. Everyone here calls me Joey, and that is the name on every other page — but if you are going to take a word of teaching from me, you should have the real one. I am a software engineer by trade: I wrote every line of the system that keeps this ledger and publishes this page. I am not an advisor, I run no fund, and I manage nobody's money but my own.

I've been trading my own money since June 2023 — 3 years, two brokerage accounts, 1,491 fills, and every one of them is published at the record. Not a curated highlight reel: the whole ledger, winners and losers, dollars included.

How I trade. Equities, almost always. I take swings I intend to hold for days or weeks and I day trade when the tape actually offers one — but I'm happy carrying a position overnight, which rules out a lot of what people call day trading. I read the options chain constantly for what it says about the stock, and I only buy a contract when the move I'm paying for is big enough to outrun the decay. The book runs inside a limited-margin IRA: no shorting, no borrowing, no naked options. I size for the drawdown I can sit through rather than the upside I can imagine, because this is retirement money and it does not get a second chance.

Why you can check me. Every fill was typed from a broker confirm into a SQLite ledger and reconciled against every monthly statement and 1099 either broker ever issued. This site is the output of a Python script that reads that ledger — no JavaScript, no analytics, no cookies, no vendor. Each rebuild is committed to git, so the site's own history is the tamper-evidence.

Tapehand In development

AI-assisted day and swing trading — a local market-data engine your assistant can actually read.

  • Its own math. Implied vol and greeks are computed locally, not copied from a vendor's feed — so every number is one you can re-derive and argue with.
  • Built for an AI to use. The whole engine is exposed to a language model as read-only tools, with the failure modes written into the tool descriptions. Ask it in plain English; check its arithmetic.
  • Your data, your machine. A local store that accumulates history as you trade. Bars, chains, IV history, your ledger and your theses.
  • It never pulls the trigger. Tapehand builds an order, prices it, sizes it, and checks it against your guards — then it stops. No automated execution, at any setting. That last inch is your hand. It's where the name comes from.

One-on-one

Office hours $200 / 30 minutes

I teach personal, one-on-one trading sessions. They are education only: market mechanics, order types and routing, reading an options chain, position sizing, risk and process, journaling, and how I built the system behind this page. What a session is not: personalized investment advice, recommendations to buy or sell anything, signals, account management, or any promise you will make money. Booking a lesson creates no advisory or fiduciary relationship — everything in the legal section applies to lessons too. This site is the honest advertisement: the record is what I teach from.

The line, drawn plainly. I sell knowledge and ideas — not results, and not actual plays. What you will never receive from me, at any price: instructions to buy or sell anything, entries or exits for your account, trade alerts or signals, “plays,” portfolio advice tailored to you, or a promise of profit. If you ask me “should I buy it?”, I will teach you how I would analyze it and hand the decision back — that is the product.

What you will receive: how markets and orders actually work, options math you can check, sizing and risk frameworks, my full process with its receipts (the record), worked examples from my own past trades, and honest feedback on your process — never on your positions. Every student signs the education agreement saying exactly this before the first paid hour; it is public because the terms don't change for anyone.
